Digsby is the best instant messaging client for Windows. You can talk to your friends on AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Google Talk, and Jabber with it.

It gets even better. With Digsby, you can also get notifications from social networks like facebook and myspace about new comments, etc via system tray icons (the icons by the clock at the bottom).

You can also add your e-mail account to Digsby and be updated when new e-mail comes in. I added my gmail account and it works great!
